Nutrimar AS was founded with the business idea of creating value out of by-products produced from the salmon industry. Since then, the company has nurtured certain skills surrounding the processing of fresh raw materials, specifically in the process of hydrolysis. This has allowed Nutrimar to position itself as an innovative and sustainable enterprise for the future. The business started back in 2007 with the company investing in a processing plant for salmon by-products, literally next door to SalMar's salmon processing plant at Nordskaget / Frøya. Nutrimar has continually had this activity as one of its areas of business, and through this work created increased employment in the local community and augmented the value of the raw material that was once considered waste. Taking advantage of and creating value out of under-utilised raw materials are still central in the company's vision and aims. This is in line with the Norwegian and European political agenda, which focuses on the circular economy, aiming for greater resource efficiency and excellent utilisation of raw materials.
