An idea that turned into something big

From waste to valuable raw material

Our blue fields are a major source of important raw materials and healthy food – and the natural and species-rich coastline in Norway is a major contributor. Nutrimar was founded in 2006 to contribute to a more sustainable marine industry here at home, based on weather-hardy Frøya.

The basic idea was to utilize the residual raw material (by-products) from the salmon industry and refine it into new products. But to which ones? We found out, and today we make sure that 100% of the salmon is used in the very best way. Every day we transport several tonnes of steaming fresh and nutritious oil and flour from our factory in the Nordskaget. In addition, we have found a valuable raw material source in the fabulous, Norwegian large lake out here. The drive is the same: to produce sustainable, marine ingredients the world needs.

We still live where there is a lot of sea and a lot of weather. Here, our very first employees Lasse Espnes and Tor Egil Eide, together with founder Gustav Witzøe, COO Ingvild Nygård and CEO Edgar Skjervold, tell how it all started. And how far we can go.

We say like Tor Egil: – It’s like that you want to talk about it, it’s a bit like YES!

This is the story of Nutrimar.
